Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for H. Matthews Gruben, age 87 of Bonham, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham. Bro. Ken Womack will officiate the service; military honors will be rendered by United States Army Honor Guard. Interment will be held at Willow Wild Cemetery.
H. Matthews Gruben was born on December 9, 1924 in Spur, TX to William Charles and Stella Matthews Gruben. He married Jeanne Louise (Anderson) Gruben on December 3, 1944; she preceded him in death on November 13, 2005. Mr. Gruben served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a Tech. Sergeant for the 82nd Paratrooper Airborne All American Division, played in the Army Band, and is a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Bonham.
He is survived by Sons-John S. Gruben and wife JoAnn of Bonham, TX; and Matthews C. Gruben and wife Kathleen of Statesboro, GA; Grandchildren-Bonnie Jeanne Huggins and husband Hugh of Myrtle Beach, SC; Jeffrey Matthews Gruben of Johns Creek, GA; Lisa Lynn Gruben of Columbia, SC; Great grandchild-Henry Huggins; and Sister-Emma Allbritton of Seymour, TX. He is also preceded in death by Brother-William Charles Gruben, II.
Family visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, from 6-8 p.m.
