Sherman, Texas -- Funeral services for Virginia Ruth Wright Skelton, 90, of Sherman will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. Officiating the service will be Rev. Wendell Williams and Rev. James Moore.
Family visitation will be Friday, May 31 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Morris Royal, L.D. Morgan, Steve Austin, Rad Richardson, Fred Thompson, and Joe Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be the Fellowship Class at Fairview Baptist Church.
Interment will be at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas.
Virginia passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at her home in Sherman, Texas.
She was born Virginia Ruth Wright, May 10, 1923 in Dallas, Texas to Ruth Merriman Wright and Leslie E. Wright.
Virginia graduated from Richardson High School in 1940 and married George N. Skelton on August 2, 1941.
She graduated from Business College and worked as a legal secretary, eventually working for Richard “Racehorse” Haines in Houston, Texas.
She was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. Virginia was a member of WNJ Auxiliary and she loved knitting baby caps for the hospital.
Virginia is survived by three granddaughters; Cherami Skelton of Grand Prairie, Jai and husband Albert Edwards of Hendrix, Oklahoma, and Duana Janis of Hendrix, Oklahoma; two great-grandchildren, Bryan and Stormi Martin of Hendrix, Oklahoma; and daughter-in-law Cindy Skelton. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her church family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George N. Skelton; son, Robert W. Skelton; daughter, Jerry Janis; grandson, Jon Janis; and sister, Ann Gibson.
