TCOG to host Eco-Tourism Symposium: Developing Eco-Tourism in Fannin County & the Texoma Region

SHERMAN – Dr. Susan Thomas, Executive Director of Texoma Council of Governments (TCOG), announced today an Eco-Tourism Symposium will be held in the TEAM Center Conference Room, 810 West 16th Street, Bonham, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16. The Symposium will focus on developing eco-tourism in Fannin County and the Texoma Region.
Dr. Thomas stated, “Texoma Council of Governments is pleased to host this eco-tourism symposium. This gathering will focus on the great potential eco-tourism holds for Fannin County and the entire Texoma Region. We want to thank our sponsors, partners, speakers and guests for helping make this symposium a reality.”
Topics for the Symposium include the development of a regional eco-tourism plan, the impact the two proposed lakes, Lake Ralph Hall and the Lower Bois D’Arc Reservoir, will have on eco-tourism, emerging enterprises from eco-tourism, agribusiness and eco-tourism, and the Red River/wetlands and eco-tourism, as well as other topics of relevance. One of the organizing partners for the event, Randy Moore, District Conservationist for the USDA, points out that, “Fannin County is not known as a sprawling metropolis; we ARE noted for our ‘Great Outdoors’.”
This gathering will focus on the great potential eco-tourism holds for Fannin County and the entire Texoma Region.
Sponsors for the Symposium include Fannin Bank, the Fannin County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Bois D’Arc Master Naturalists, and the Texoma Regional Foundation. The Symposium is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

The Texoma Council of Governments is a voluntary association of the local governments in Cooke, Fannin, and Grayson counties. Established in 1968, the Texoma Council of Governments promotes economy and efficiency in the coordinated planning and development of the tri-county region through its community and economic development activities.
Either directly, or through contractors, the Council provides housing, utility assistance, and weatherization services for low-income citizens in the region and assists the elderly through a variety of Area Agency on Aging programs. The Council also facilitates the delivery of grant funding for homeland security and criminal justice.
