Bonham Warriors fall to Howe in season opener

On Friday evening, the Bonham Warriors kicked off the 2014 season with a battle against the Howe Bulldogs.

The first points from either side came with 2:25 in the first quarter as the Bulldogs capped off a long drive with a three yard touchdown run. Howe once again added points to the board coming from a 45 yard pass in the second quarter. With six minutes left in the second quarter, lightning struck to delay the game for approximately 45 minutes.

The second half showed back and forth defensive battles as neither team was able to put any points on the board, and as the clock hit 0:00, the Bulldogs captured a 14-0 victory over the Warriors.

On Thursday night, the Warriors Junior Varsity will take on the Van Alstyne Panthers at home, with kickoff beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Next Friday night, the Bonham Warriors will travel to Van Alstyne to take on the Panthers. Game time will be 7:30 p.m.

Leonard Gerner, former aviator at Jones Field and longtime area educator and coach, was honorary captain Friday evening when the Bonham Warriors hosted the Howe Bulldogs in the 2014 season opener.
