Bonham -- Texas State Veterans Homes are where honor lives. The Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham honored veterans Tuesday with patriotic speeches and a patriotic medley, courtesy of Dodd City Honor Choir.
The home is named after Army 2nd Lt. Clyde W. Cosper who gave his life to avoid crashing his B-17 bomber into an English village in November 1943 during World War II. For his actions that day, he was honored with the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
Former Lamar County Veterans Service Officer and retired Navy counselor C.H. “Chet” Hilyer was the keynote speaker. During the ceremony, the residents of the home were recognized for their service and sacrifices.
Bonham Mayor Roy Floyd expressed his appreciation to veterans.
"Thank you for the opportunity to join you here and honor our veterans," remarked Mayor Floyd. "On behalf of the City of Bonham, we say thank you. To all veterans who have served and who are currently serving our nation, thank you for your sacrifice to the most wonderful country in the world, USA."
