COMMERCE — Officers responding to a call of shoplifters in custody found that the suspects had drugs on them as well.

On Friday, August 28, 2015, just before 2:00 p.m., officers with the Commerce Police Department were dispatched to the Wal-Mart store in the 2700 block of State Highway 24 where an asset protection employee had detained two people for shoplifting.

According to an asset protection employee, 27-year-old Commerce resident Kimberly Michelle Stailey and 46-year-old Commerce resident Dalton Dewayne Hunt entered the store and went to the electronics department where, together, they picked out some items from the shelves.  Mr. Hunt then went to another part of the store where he placed the items in his backpack.  Mr. Hunt and Ms. Stailey were detained after they attempted to leave the store without paying for the items.  At the asset protection office, both persons told a Commerce Police Officer that they had drugs in their bags.  Officers were able to recover several pieces of drug paraphernalia, a prescription bottle with narcotics and approximately .7 grams of what is believed to be crystal methamphetamines from Ms. Stailey.  Officers also found that Mr. Hunt was in possession of approximately 5.3 grams of crystal methamphetamines, a prescription bottle with pills not prescribed to him and drug paraphernalia.
