MT. CALM — The end came quickly, if not painlessly for Fannindel on the cold, muddy, water-standing field in the hill country Friday night at the hands of the Panthers 62-14. Before the second half ended the game over with the 45 point rule.

Senior Jarvis Wilburn was the team’s leading rusher with 20 yards for the night. He was the only Falcon player with positive yardage.

Serving as a transition the game brought the younger players to the front for real game experience. Layne Miller served as quarterback for most of the night, stepping into the large shoes being vacated by Wilburn. Miller connected with senior Britt Moody four times during the evening making Moody the leading receiver with 105 yards for the night.

Senior Akeyl Caesar who is also leaving a large hole to fill in the Falcon offense followed Moody with 41 yards receiving for the night. Juniors Tanner Boggess and Jeremiah Carino, who have played the entire season, both put points on the board for the Falcons.

At the end of the first quarter the Panthers lead 24-0.

With 7:14 left in the second quarter Carino scored the Falcons’ first touchdown of the night from 16 yards out on a pass play from Miller. Moody’s extra point was good.

Miller then connected with Moody on a 20 yard pass play with 4:35 left in the half. Wilburn then threw to Boggess for the extra points.

Two Fannindel possessions later Moody’s pass was intercepted and run into the endzone from 20 yards out to make the score 62-14.

The Falcons took possession one last time with Boggess advancing the ball 14 yards after a pass from Miller in a last ditch effort to keep Fannindel in the game. But Miller’s pass to junior Colby Smith fell incomplete. Justin Miller then had a loss of five on his carry, followed by Kyle Carver throwing an interception.

Mt. Calm quarterback took a knee to end the game with 2:03 still to play in the half. Mt. Calm was then presented the district trophy. They will advance to Bellville this week for the playoff game.
