Denison -- It was a weekend of film, food, live music, art demonstrations, dance and workshops as Denison hosted the 2016 Interurban Film Festival April 1-2, as well as the 1st Annual Culture of Arts Festival Saturday, April 2.
The Interurban Film Festival kicked things off Friday at Rialto Theater and featured 55 films from around the world at the two-day event.
On Saturday, the event expanded to include art demonstrations, crafts, festival food, workshops and dance. Live music began at 1:00 p.m. Saturday on the Heritage Park stage, with special guest, street muralist DTOX.
Musicians included Julian Pollaro & Daniel Cagle, Daniel Katsuk, Michael Garfield, Daisy Windsong and the evening culminated with a reggae cleansing courtesy of well-traveled Watusi.
Jimi "Watusi" Towry had just returned from performing all winter in Costa Rica and he also played at Carnival in Colombia last month. But perhaps the highlight of his winter trip to warmer climes was a recent performance at a music festival in Cuba.
"It was the best week on my life," the Watusi lead singer/keyboardist said of his sojourn to the island country 90 miles south of Key West, Florida. "I didn't really know what to expect, but the people were warm and open."
