From: The Baseball Fans of the History of the Greenville Majors
“And when it began back in April there was those who didn’t know what was going to happen, nobody did, there was those who didn’t give the Yankees a chance to finish higher than third, from third on down…”

Yankees vs Red Sox Final Pennant Game
Yankee Stadium
October 1, 1949 2:33 p.m.
The New York Yankees finished the ’49 season 97-57, one game ahead of the Boston Red Sox to steal the AL Pennant and go on to win the World Series five years in a row: 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953. Perhaps getting beat by a Class B Minor League team started it all.
If you build it they will come, if you dream it, it can be done. They dared to dream the impossibility that the mighty Yanks could be beaten. The 66th Anniversary of the Greenville Majors defeating the NY Yankees on April 10, 1949 at Majors Stadium in downtown Greenville, Texas and all things Hunt County Baseball including Monty Stratton memorabilia will be remembered all day in a "come and go" manner on Saturday, April 9 at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum on I-30 near Division Street in Greenville, Texas from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
