Bonham, Texas -- John Stewart Delk passed away at his home in Bonham on Saturday, June 25, 2016. He was 75 years old. He had several health problems and his body was tired of fighting. John was born in Glasgow, KY on July 25, 1940, the son of John L. and Launia Stewart Delk. His father was in the military so the family lived in many places. He was in high school in Germany for 2 ½ years. He graduated from Burges High School in El Paso and from Northwestern States University. John worked for El Paso Oil and Gas Co. for many years and then went to work for Wal-Mart. He came to Bonham to be the Wal-Mart store manager and retired in 2004.
John married Sally Williams in 2003 and the couple traveled extensively. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing cards and being with friends. John had a deep love for his children, grandchildren, stepchildren and step grandchildren. They and his many friends loved him in return. He was lots of fun to be around.
John Stewart Delk is survived by his wife, Sally, and his sons, Chanley Delk and wife, Heidi of Midland, TX, Robert Delk and wife Sherrie, Brian Delk of Greensboro, NC and John Delk and wife, Angela f Lake Martin, AL, daughter, Heather Peeler and husband, Daniel of Bonham, TX, a stepdaughter, Terry Penna and husband, Rick and stepson, Brad Williams of Bonham. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald Delk of Midland, TX, 6 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Toby Delk and his parents, John and Launia Delk.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 30, at 3:00 p.m. Before the service there will be a visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the church and after the service there will be a reception in the church education building.
