Second Saturday—July 9

After three years of drought, our prayers for rain were finally answered with those 3 years of rain in one year!

Mark Twain said, "It is best to read the weather forecast before praying for rain."

If you are looking for more information about meteorology,  plan to attend the Second Saturday program "Weather Patterns, El Nino, and More"  at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge on July 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center.

The guest speaker will be KXII meteorologist Wava Denito.  Born in Lucas, Texas, she is well-versed in Texas weather patterns.  An evening meteorology class at a private Missouri college hooked her on the subject.  Wava chose to attend the University of Oklahoma because it has one of the top meteorology programs in the country.

After graduating from OU she joined the KXII meteorology team in July of 2013.  Wava has become a well-known on-air personality to the people of North Texas with her knowledge of weather and her engaging delivery.

Second Saturdays are held the second Saturday of each month at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge at 6465 Refuge Road, Sherman, Texas.  The programs are always free and open to the public.  No reservations are required.

Butterfly Garden Walk—July 16

On Saturday, July 16, from 9:30 to 11:30 am come stroll through the Butterfly Garden at Hagerman NWR. Our garden docents will be on hand to help you identify native Texas plants and the butterflies they attract.  Bring your cameras to take advantage of some great photo opportunities of our wildflowers, caterpillars, and butterflies.
