Bonham -- The Bonham Warriors and the Ferris Yellow Jackets traded touchdowns in the first half, but three Bonham turnovers on fumbles in the third period doomed the Warriors to a 20-point loss in the season opener.

Bonham had a 13-7 lead after the first quarter, courtesy of a 48-yard sprint to the end zone by Austin Simmerman behind great blocking and a 26-yard touchdown run by Xzavion Epps.

Ferris tied the game, 13-13 on a 50-yard touchdown run by speedy sophomore Damian Edwards and that would be the score at halftime.

Bonham head coach Tony Johnson said earlier in the week that the key to the game would be how well the Warriors protected the ball and that concern was realized when Bonham turned the ball over three times in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Edwards exploded for TD runs of 62 yards and 64 yards on his way to a 320-yard rushing night.

The Yellow Jackets' other score came on a perfectly thrown 60-yard bomb from Joecoby Woodson to a streaking Riley Fagan.

Bonham churned out 413 yards on the ground, with Simmerman and Epps turning in workhorse performances. Cade Trompler, Corey Hartwell, Tyler Rodriguez and Evan Wilson also had nice runs behind an offensive line that turned in a solid performance.

The Warriors struggled through air, completing 1-of-9 passes for 18 yards.

Bonham will travel to Van Alstyne on Friday, September 2, while Ferris will host Fort Worth Castleberry
