Sulphur Springs Wildcats 43, Sherman 42

Sulphur Springs -- Sulphur Springs went up 7-0 in the first quarter in the season opener Friday night against the Sherman Bearcats.  Sulphur Springs then scored again in the second quarter to make it 14-0. 

The Bearcats got on the board in the second quarter on a Brent Wilson 3-yard run.  Pedro Salvador's extra point bounced off the left upright to make the score 14-6.  The Wildcats scored again and converted the 2-point conversion to make it 22-6. 

Nathaniel Omayebu then went untouched for a 62-yard touchdown run with 7:24 left in the second quarter.  Salvador's extra point was true and made the score 22-13. 

Omayebu then went 67 yards for his second touchdown to make the score 22-20 with 5:05 left in the first half. 

Sulphur Springs scored late in the second quarter to make the halftime score 29-20. 

The Bearcats came out in the second half and scored on the first play from scrimmage.  Omayebu went 58 yards around the left end for his third touchdown of the game and the score closed to 29-27. 

David Bedgood then hit Connor Hughes with a 10-yard touchdown pass and the Cats went up 35-29 with 4:45 to go in the third quarter.  Sulphur Springs then answered to make it 36-36. 

Bedgood and Hughes connected again on a 27-yard touchdown pass and the Bearcats went up 42-36.  Sulphur Springs scored late in the fourth quarter for the winning touchdown in an exciting 43-42 season opener.
