SAN ANTONIO – Three free seminars on fruit trees will be presented during January by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in collaboration with retail nurseries and businesses in San Antonio.

The programs will cover the basic steps of selecting appropriate fruit tree species, how to properly plant, train and maintain the trees, and how and when to harvest the fruit, said David Rodriguez, AgriLife Extension horticulturist for Bexar County.

Rodriguez will present the first program from 10:30 a.m.-noon Jan. 14 at Milberger’s Landscape Nursery, 3920 N. Loop 1604 East.

“The public is invited and one and a half continuing education units will be awarded to Master Gardeners who attend,” Rodriguez said.

A second program will be presented from 9 a.m.-noon Jan. 21 at Fanick’s Garden Center, 1025 Holmgreen Road in San Antonio. This program will be presented by Dr. Larry Stein, AgriLife Extension horticulturist, Uvalde.

Three continuing education units will be awarded to Master Gardeners who attend.

“Attendees should bring a pen and a notebook as there will be a lot of practical and useful information they’ll want to remember,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez will present a third program on fruit trees from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Blue Star Brewing Company Restaurant, 1414 S. Alamo Street, Suite 105.

“Attendees can come learn to grow their own fruit trees for better eating enjoyment,” Rodriguez said. “This will be a great training for new and experienced gardeners in and around the San Antonio area. And if they want, attendees can arrive early and have dinner.”

One and a half continuing education units will be awarded to Master Gardeners who attend.
