On January 19, 2017, 10 Bonham High School students and 3 parents along with Academic Advisor/CTE Coordinator, Shelby Lowrey, will be traveling to Washington D.C. to attend the January 20, 2017 Inauguration. The students that will be attending consist of Kristopher Barr, Cassidy Fite, Jordan Fite, Cayleigh Ford, Carsyn Hemby, Melinda Hendricks, McKayla Henry, Ryan Murray, and Luke Porter. The parents that will be attending are Tricia Brigance, Elizabeth Fite, and Terry Fite.

The group will be traveling with WorldStrides Educational Student Travel, an accredited student travel organization. Mrs. Lowery states that when the organization contacted her last spring and inquired about putting together a group to attend the Inauguration in January 2017 she was not sure if we had anyone interested, but she invited our incoming juniors and seniors to attend. When the level of interest with that group of students was not sufficient, she extended the invitation to freshmen and sophomores in the fall semester. Worldstrides holds an Inaugural Ball for all of the students traveling with their organization on the night of the Inauguration. Our students will be able to interact with students from all over the United States. We will be able to see all of the monuments and memorials as well as visit the Smithsonian Museum. Each student is eligible to complete an online course to receive additional high school credit as well.

Shelby Lowrey, Academic Advisor/CTE Coordinator - "I believe this is such an amazing opportunity for our students. This trip is providing our students with life-changing experiences through exposure to new thoughts, friendships, and life perspective. Trips like these create memories that are shared forever. I am fortunate to be able to travel and share this experience with a great group of students."

Carsyn Hemby (9th grader) - "To be able to see our newly elected President take office, sounded like a cool experience. Also, being able to visit places like Ford’s Theatre and actually visit the memorials of important historical figures is something I have always wanted to do.”

Kristopher Barr (11th grader) – “I am really excited about the trip. I am most excited to see the WWII Memorial and the Smithsonian Museum. World War II history has always interested me and I have always wanted to see the monuments and memorials.”
