COMMERCE– For the second consecutive week, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team is a top-10 ranked team in the region. The Lions held firm in their No. 9 spot in this week's 2016-17 D2SIDA Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, released Monday. It is the third time the Lions have been ranked this season.

This is the seventh release of the weekly rankings this season. The poll is calculated by the rankings of various sports information directors, with a first place vote worth 10 points. The South Central Region consists of the Lone Star, Rocky Mountain Athletic and Heartland conferences.

The Lions are currently 9-4 on the season and have won six of their last eight games. They are 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference. Three of the Lions' four losses have come to teams ranked in the top five.

A&M-Commerce is one of five teams from the LSC in the rankings. Angelo State continues to be ranked first in the region, Eastern New Mexico is fourth, Texas Woman's is eighth and West Texas A&M is tied for 10th.

The Lions are tied for third place in the Lone Star Conference. They have two conference games coming up this week. The Lions face Tarleton State on Tuesday. It will be the final game of a seven-game road stand for A&M-Commerce. That game will start at 5:30 p.m. The Lions then return home to face Texas Woman's on Saturday at 2 p.m.
