Major thoroughfare to expand from four to six lanes
from U.S. 75 to Ridge Road

McKINNEY, Texas (Feb. 15, 2017) – The City of McKinney will soon begin a project to expand portions of Virginia Parkway from four to six lanes in both directions, providing much needed extra capacity between U.S. 75 and Ridge Road. No complete closures are planned for the duration of the project and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2018.

The first phase of the project will include construction from Ridge Road to Bellegrove Drive. Construction will begin Feb. 20, and one lane may be closed in either direction between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

As part of the project, the bridge over Wilson Creek will be widened to include an eight-foot sidewalk on both sides, a pedestrian overlook on the northwest corner and a connection with the existing hike and bike trail at Bonnie Wenk Park. Beautification and landscaping efforts are planned for the entire Virginia Parkway corridor.

Delays are expected. Please drive safely through work zones, and observe traffic warning signs.
