The lay-led congregation at Red River Unitarian Universalist Church has invited the Rev. Kevin Bradley, a representative from the Final Exit Network, to speak this Sunday. His remarks “Whose Life Is It, Anyway?” will focus on end-of-life issues.

“Why it is so difficult for people to ensure their choices regarding end of life issues are honored?” Bradley asks.  “Medical advances that allow us to live longer than ever before, even when we don’t want to. Time was, death was relatively quick and typically happened at home surrounded by loved ones. Today, most people experience a slow, lingering death, usually in an institution and often alone.”  

The Morning Assembly is at 11:15 a.m. and all who are interested in learning how to grapple with this difficult topic are encouraged to attend.

The  Rev. Bradley is an interfaith hospice chaplain, spiritual intelligence coach, stress management counselor, and writer. He will be talking about the Death with Dignity movement and Final Exit Network, which provides education and support for the terminally ill and anyone who is suffering intolerable pain. Rev. Bradley's perspective has been shaped by his theological studies and personal involvement with many patients and their loved ones during end-of-life situations. He is ordained in the United Church of Christ and a graduate of Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University. 

Sunday morning begins, for all who enjoy taking time to experience the calming effects meditation creates, with an hour of mindful meditation at 9:00 a.m. The Adult Forum, meeting at 10:00 a.m., will continue studying the 2,000 history of Unitarian Universalism with a film and discussion series called The Strange Journey.  This week’s topic is American Unitarianism from 1620-1860.
