Obie was born on June 2, 1932, in Westminster, Texas to Wade and Hattie York. He grew up with 5 sisters and 4 brothers, and he spent much of his childhood playing the guitar and singing. He retired from the school district after 20 years of doing wood work/carpentry work.

He married Freda Holland September 15, 1956, and he was the proud father of Tammy Wortham.

Obie was incredibly passionate and proud of his family. He is survived by his wife, Freda York; daughter, Tammy Wortham; son-in-law, Dooley Wortham; grandkids, Chad Wortham, Kendra Tilley, Chasity Wortham and Matt Henderson; and four great-grandkids, Colton, Chase, and Coy Wortham and Jacob Henderson.

Obie often said, "Don’t do as I do, do as I say!"

Visitation is at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas on March 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
