The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams started the outdoor season of 2017 off with a school record and eight NCAA provisional qualifying marks. 

On Wednesday and Thursday, the women’s team sent heptathletes to the Angelo State Spring Break Multis, with two Lions earning NCAA provisional marks. Shanecia Baker scored 4,735 points and Jessica Clay scored 4,505 points in the seven-discipline event for their provisional marks. 

On Saturday, the Lions competed at the TCU Invitational, and saw a school record fall. Dedrian Windham ran the 400 meters in a time of 47.28 seconds, taking down a two-year old record. That is currently the fastest Division II time in the nation as well. 

Jasmine Roberts’ leap of 12.35 meters in the women’s triple jump is the longest in Division II this season, earning her a provisional qualifying mark. 

The 4x100 meter relay team of Malcolm Woods, Reggie Kincade, Isaiah McFail, and Devon Sanders notched the fastest Division II time in the nation at 40.56 seconds for a provisional mark as well. 

Sanders’ time of 21.38 in the 200 meters is a provisional mark and the second-best in Division II at this early stage in the season. 

DeVontae Steele hit a provisional qualifying mark of 14.83 meters in the triple jump, the third-longest jump in Division II so far this outdoor season. 

Markie Abbott hit a provisional qualifying mark in the women’s high jump at 1.73 meters, which is the third-best in Division II this season - only 2 centimeters off the tops in the nation. 

The Lions will participate in a pair of meets next weekend, with Rice hosting the Victor Lopez Invitational March 23-25, and UT Arlington hosting the Bobby Lane Invitational on March 24-25.
