Bonham -- On January 23, 2017, the Bonham Independent School District’s Board of Trustees unanimously passed a Resolution to Adopt a District of Innovation (DOI) Plan to increase local control over District operations and to support innovation and local initiatives. On February 15, 2017, the Board appointed an eighteen member District of Innovation Committee comprised of diverse leaders representing a cross-section of the District’s stakeholders including teachers, counselors, principals and administrators. In a collaborative effort, the Committee met on February 16, 2017, and February 21, 2017, to discuss and draft the Local Innovation Plan. The DOI Plan was then approved by the District Educational Improvement Council and the Board of Trustees during their March meetings.

A District of Innovation is a concept passed by the 84th Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, that gives traditional school districts most of the flexibilities available to Texas’ open enrollment charter schools. District of Innovation have the opportunity to design a comprehensive education plan according to the needs and resources of our district while maximizing local control.

The Bonham ISD DOI Plan addresses the following areas Teacher Certification, Probationary Contracts, Teacher Contract Days, Class Size Ratios, and First Day of Instruction. The DOI Plan, with more detailed information, can be viewed on the Bonham ISD District website under the Parent tab.
