Austin College invites children
to 'Roo Bound event for Earth Day

Sherman -- Area children are invited to participate in Austin College’s ’Roo Bound program Saturday, April 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event is a free Saturday morning program for elementary schools students (K through 5) to come and spend time with volunteers from the Austin College community. April’s program will be celebrating Earth Day. Students will take part in a nature scavenger hunt in the morning and a fun activity with recycled cardboard after lunch.

Parents are required to register their students at least one day before so that the Service Station can plan the correct amount of materials and volunteers. There is a maximum of 50 participants.

For more information or to reserve a spot for the program, contact the Austin College Service Station at 903.813.2333 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays or email servicestation@austincollege.edu. The day of the program, parents can drop off their students at the Wright Campus Center covered entrance, off Brocket Street, at 11a.m.

In addition to the special learning opportunity for children, ’Roo Bound, coordinated by the Austin College Service Station but involving many students across campus, is designed to expose children to the idea of college in a safe, fun environment. The organizers hope that the program makes college attendance (at any college, not just Austin College) seem accessible to children, particularly those who might be the first in their families to consider college.

’Roo Bound events are scheduled September through April at Austin College. For details contact the Service Station staff at 903.813.2333.
