Bonham -- Funeral services for James Stephen Mincey, 69, of Bonham, Texas will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, Texas. Family visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 2:00 p.m. Bro. John Salem will officiate. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Mr. Mincey passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at his home.
James Stephen Mincey was born in Lawton, OK on July 10, 1948 to James Robert and Ollie Bernice (Hall) Mincey. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp. during Vietnam from 1968 to 1972. He received the following medals; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with 2 stars, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, Air Medal with NUM 8, Purple Heart, and Combat Air Crew Insignia with 3 stars and Good Conduct Medal.
James was recently recognized as Texoma Hero.
He married Melanie Lynette (Lewis) Mincey on January 14, 1988 in Bonham, TX. James worked at the Bonham VA in warehouse supplies before retiring. James and Melanie began the Broken Wheel Ranch offering Equine Therapy to assist veterans. He was a life member of DAV, Purple heart association and Riding 4 Justice. James led a strong Christian life, volunteering with many activities and always helping veterans as well as others get to and from appointments, to church and to riding events. He was a member of Wild Horse Creek Cowboy Church.
James Mincey is survived by wife, Melanie Mincey of Bonham, TX; daughters, Yolanda White of Denison, TX; Shelly Collins of Seattle, WA; and Georgia Susanne Smith of Lawton, OK; sons, Ross Ingram of Sherman, TX; Bradley Ingram of Bonham, TX; and Cody Osborne of Bonham, TX; daughter, Kelsi Pralle of Sherman, TX; numerous grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; sister, Twala Mincey of Bonham, TX; brothers, Mike Mincey of Elgin, OK and Jeff Mincey of Elgin, OK; along with the Broken Wheel Ranch Family, close friends, including special friend and nurse, Su Brown and David and Suzy Bridges.
He is preceded in death by his son, Robin Roy Mincey; granddaughter, Mikayla Smith; parents, James Robert and Ollie Bernice Mincey; sister, Ann Hawthorne.
