Bonham Texas -- Funeral services for Clovis Carlton Harlan, 79, of Dodd City, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home of Bonham.  Bro. Millard Doan Brent will officiate. Interment with military honors rendered by the United States Army honor Guard will follow at Dodd City Cemetery.  Clovis Carlton Harlan passed from this life at his home in Dodd City on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Clovis Carlton Harlan was born on December, 2, 1937 in Grayson County to Henry C. Harlan and Gertie Mae Meeks Harlan. Clovis grew up in the Dodd City community and was a member of the 1957 graduating class of Dodd City High School. He lettered in basketball throughout his high school years and upon graduation went to work at DeRose Mobile Homes in Bonham. He owned a service station on Bonham’s North Main Street for a short time before he was drafted into the United States Army in 1961. He served honorably in the Army’s Heavy Boat Division in Newport News, VA., and was deployed to Florida during the Cuban Crisis. While serving in the military, Clovis earned the Master Electrician’s Designation. This is the craft he practiced throughout his work years in the Fort Worth and Dallas area.  He was a talented mechanic and loved building fast-running cars. His other lifelong hobby was deer hunting which he shared with his son Brian Harlan and several close hunting buddies. Mr. Harlan accepted Jesus August 12, 1956 and was a lifelong member of the Dodd City Baptist Church.

Clovis is survived by his wife, Eva of the home, son Brian Dale Harlan and wife Irene of Ennis, TX, a step-son, Chivas Smith, and grandson, Brandon Harlan. He also leaves behind one sister, Doris Gibson of Waco, TX and a brother, Larry Harlan of Melissa, TX along with one nephew and four nieces. Clovis Harlan was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Gertie Harlan, four brothers: John Edward Harlan, Hulan V. Harlan, Lendol L. Harlan and H.C. Harlan, Junior.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adolfo Falcon, Justin McGahan, Ricky Stagner, Shane Stevens, Bill White, and Jeff White. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Harlan and Jerry Harlan.

Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home of Bonham.
