ATLANTA, Ga. – Austin College linebacker Jackson Townsend has been named the Southern Athletic Association Football Defensive Player of the Week following a standout performance on Saturday, September 9, the league office has announced. 

Townsend, a junior from Richardson, set the tone early for Austin College in a 34-12 victory over Wayland Baptist University. Townsend intercepted a pass on WBU’s first possession and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown, and would later add a second interception to help seal the game. He also made six tackles, including one tackle for loss, and came away with a pass breakup as well.
