Tom Bean, Texas -- The City of Tom Beanis getting ready to celebrate “Autumn Nights” on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Please come out and enjoy live music, shop with local vendors, enjoy breakfast with the Tom Bean VFD serving a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.  Please come and support our fire department--donations only! 

Lunch will be with the Whitewright Masonic Lodge with hamburgers and fries and other food vendors.  Bring the little ones to have fun and play in the Kid Zone from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.-- bounce houses, DIY slime, mini pumpkin painting, popcorn, snow cones, games,  tricycle races, cookie decorating, face painting, hayrides at 5:00 and then movie night!  Bring the kids for fun!!

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE NOTIFICATION LETTER

To: Residents and Business Owners

This letter is to serve as notification for a scheduled temporary road closure (s) of the following roads:

Hwy 11 access will be closed at 100 Block of S. Britton. (Blinking Light).  100 Block of S. Britton St. will be closed all the way to the end of the 200 Block of S. Britton at Ball St.  Garner Drive will be closed from west 100 blocks to east end of the 100 block.  Cross section of 902 / W. King St. access will be closed.  King St will be closed from west 100 blocks to east end of the 100 block.

These temporary road closure (s) of the above listed streets will be Saturday October 7, 2017 from 7 am to 10 pm for our city event “Autumn Nights.” During this closure, traffic will be detoured through the neighboring streets as listed:  Access FM 902 and S. FM 2729 from Hwy 11: West Hwy 11 turning right on Thomas St. to FM 902 proceed left for access to S. FM 2729,  West Hwy 11 turning right on S. Lackey St. to FM 902 proceed left for access to S. FM 2729, East Hwy 11 turning left on S. Lyon St. to Ball St. proceed right, traveling west down Ball St. to access S. FM 2729; to continue on to FM 902 turn right on S. FM 2729 to intersect with FM 902,  Access Hwy 11 from S. FM 2729 and FM 902:  S. FM 2729 turning left on FM 902 proceed right on either S. Lackey St. or Thomas St. to continue on to HWY 11,  FM 902 east to S. FM 2729 proceed left (east) down Ball St. to S. Lackey St. turning left then on to HWY 11.
We ask that you please follow this detour to ensure the safety of our community members while they enjoy this community event. We also ask that you follow the detour signage that will be in place.

Please note that all the business along these closed road(s) may still be open on Saturday October 7, 2017 during these road closure(s). We ask that you park at the following designated parking areas and proceed on foot to that business. Accommodations will be made to help those unable to get to their destination.

There will be NO parking at the following areas:  100 Block of East Garner on road way and grassy boulevard,  100 Block of West Garner on road way and grassy boulevard ,  100 Block of West King St to the end of 100 Block of East King St.,  100 Block of S. Britton St. to the end of 200 Block of S. Britton St.

Parking will be available at the following areas:  200 Block of West Garner road way and grassy boulevard,  200 and 300 Block of East Garner road way and grassy boulevard,  Tom Bean Elementary School Parking Lot

Mayor Howard is having a contest! It is getting close to our AUTUMN NIGHTS event in downtown and we need a coloring page showing what you think our event will look like in our Pavilion Park area. So kids, put on your thinking caps! Deadline to submit to Mayor Howard at City Hall was September 29th at 5:00. Winners will be announced at 12:00 on the day of the event on October 7th. The grand prize will be a piggy full of money!!  UPDATE:  Wow! I have received over 150 coloring pages from the kids for our contest! Now my job just got harder as there are many talented kids in our community! Prizes and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded at noon on October 7th at the Pavilion.

There will be a raffle every hour from 9 am to 10 pm!  Winner must be present to win so stick around because there are some great prizes to be won and the raffle is FREE!

Gottfried Roser of Roser Martial Arts Center in Plano will be performing at the Pavilion from 1:00-1:30 pm.  Come and watch this performance!

All ages of the Tom Bean Cheerleaders will also be performing at the Pavilion throughout the day for your watching pleasure.
The Tom Bean Friends of Library will have hands-on activities with beans at the Tom Bean Community Cen ter.  After all, this is Tom BEAN. Activities include making bean mosaics, searching the Tom Bean bin for specified colors and numbers. If a child is lucky, he might find one of Tom's magic beans.  If enough people respond, we may add a tasting section with black bean brownies, chick pea flour cookies, bean chips.  Maps and posters related to beans will be on display.  Also, we will have a book sale with books given away for donations.

 Bands will be performing at the Pavilion from 5-10 pm. Come join us and listen to the great music!!

Straw hay bales used for our sitting will be on sale for $5 after the event. Proceeds go toward the Tom Bean Monument restoration effort.  His monument is located in Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, Texas and is in need of some help in getting this 12’ solid marble monument upright once again.  Please support this cause!
