Sherman -- The Denison Yellow Jackets defeated the Sherman Bearcats, 49-24, in the  119th meeting of the Battle of the Axe on Friday night.

Sherman had the only points in the opening period on a field goal, but Denison went on to score 42 points in the next two periods to post a 25-point win over Sherman.

This was Denison's fifth consecutive win over its rival.

Both teams advance to the playoffs.
