Ector -- Ector Eagles have advanced to the semifinals of the 2017 Ector Holiday Tournament after posting a five-point victory over the Chisum Mustangs.
It was Chisum with an early 11-8 advantage, but three-point shot by Ector's Deviaire Patterson tied the game and Ector slipped in front, 14-11, as the first quarter ended.
Ethan Norwood came up with a steal and raced in for a lay-up, Kenny Nelms hit a triple and Patterson knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Chisum connected on a long three-point shot at the buzzer to cut Ector's lead to 28-22 at the half.
The Eagles were on top, 46-37, going into the fourth quarter. Chisum got within five points of the lead at 60-55 with two minutes remaining to play, but a pair of lay-ups by Patterson helped Ector put a 65-60 win in the books.
Ector's Deviaire Patterson poured in 30 points to lead all scorers, Austin Earl put up 10 points, Kenny Nelms had eight points, Garen Norwood scored six, Joey Grijalva finished with five points, with Noel Cannaday and Kyrin Beach each pitching in three points.
Carson Ruthart led Chisum with 17 points and Tanner Flippen finished with 13 points.
The two semifinals contests in the boys bracket will feature Roxton versus Blue Ridge at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and Ector versus McKinney Christian at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
The boys championship game is scheduled to tip-off at 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
