McKinney, Texas -- Bob Rankins, 87, a lifelong resident of McKinney, Texas passed away to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of January 23, 2018.  He was born September 20, 1930 to loving parents, Robert Rankins Sr. and Myrtle Jay Rankins of McKinney.

Bob grew up on a farm near the historic community of Squeezepenny and spent his boyhood hunting arrowheads, walking the fields and creeks, and playing with his siblings, Jessie, Everett, and Minnie Sue.  As a child, he learned to swim in the clear, white rock waters of Rocky Ford and attended Melissa schools.

Bob proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California.  After serving, he returned to Texas and trained as a bricklayer apprentice.  Eventually learning all aspects of the building trade, he started a custom building business that was widely respected in the McKinney and Collin County area.

As a bricklayer, builder, and general contractor, Bob produced many buildings and fine homes that still bear his fingerprints in the mortar. His homes, which will continue to stand and serve residents and communities for many years to come, displayed his intense desire for quality and craftsmanship.  More importantly, he built relationships with people and families that lasted a lifetime.

He was married for 61 years to the former Mary Elliott of Celina, and together they purchased and lived on property near the original Rankins homestead in Squeezepenny.

Known as a person of strong faith, Bob had a heart for others and was known for his generosity and caring attitude toward anyone who needed help.  His interests included gardening, wood carving, history, and riding the tractor with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary Elliott Rankins of McKinney, Texas; son, Robert C. Rankins III of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Suzanne Rankins of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; granddaughter, Natalie Rankins of McKinney; granddaughter Caitlin Rankins; grandson Preston Robert Jordan; great-granddaughters, Paisley Jordan, Madison Jordan and Shiloh Jordan, all of New Braunfels, Texas; sister Jessie Vaughan of McKinney; brother Everett Rankins of Tracy, California and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory 637 W. Van Alstyne Parkway, Van Alstyne, Texas 75495.
