Gober, Texas -- Johnie Alene Brent, 98, of Gober, Texas passed away Monday, February 5 at Mullican Care Center in Savoy, Texas.  Mrs. Brent was born on August 17, 1919 in Gober, Texas to John Jefferson Smith and Elma Carrie Tarver Smith. She married Gene “Lefty” Brent on Christmas Day in 1937.  She was a member of the First Christian Church in Gober for over 85 years. Alene retired from Henington Publishing Co. in 2000 after more than 50 years of service, where she worked as the supervisor in the masking department.

Survivors are daughter and son-in-law, Joetta Wallace and husband Happy of Gober; son, Terry Don Brent and Janice McMillen also of Gober; grandsons: Jeff Wallace and wife Regina of Gober, Shane Wallace and wife Shawna of Gober; granddaughters: Julie Rose and husband Harold of Corsicana, Jonna Spiller and husband Jeff of Gober, great grandchildren: Jaylen Wallace and wife Kate, Jenna Wallace, Emily Wallace, Blaze Blain and wife Keylee, Monte Wallace, Nik Spiller, Jake Spiller, and Luke Spiller along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Brent was preceded in death by her husband, Lefty Brent; infant son, Doyce Gene Brent; parents, J.J. and Elma Smith; sisters: Monnie Claxton, Lena Smith, Gertrude Anderson, and Annie Faye Woodson; brothers: Jim Smith, Wilbur Smith, and Clyde Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8 at R. W. Owens & Son Funeral Chapel in Wolfe City.  Services will be conducted by Bro. Ricky Roberts, pastor of Gober Baptist Church, and Jaylen Wallace.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday, Feb. 8.  Burial will follow in the Gober Cemetery in Gober, Texas.

Pallbearers are Jeff Wallace, Shane Wallace, Jeff Spiller, Blaze Blain, Jaylen Wallace, Nik Spiller, Jake Spiller, Monte Wallace, and Luke Spiller.  Honorary pallbearers are Pat Brent, Dava Brent, Ronnie Brent, Dennis Brent, Jackie Brent, John Duke Smith, and Larry Woodson.
