Melissa -- District 11-4A just got a lot more interesting after the Bonham Lady Warriors knocked off the district-leading Melissa Lady Cardinals with a rally in the seventh inning.

Melissa came into the contest with a 6-1 record, with their only loss in the first round of district play coming at the hands of the Lady Warriors. Bonham entered the game with a 4-3 district mark and needing a win to stay within striking distance of the district leaders.

The score was tied 1-1 after four innings, but Bonham slipped in front 2-1 in the top of the fifth only to watch Melissa plate a pair of runners in the bottom half of the frame to pull in front, 3-2.

After a scoreless sixth stanza, Bonham made its move in the top of the seventh with three runs that gave the Lady Warriors a 5-3 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Melissa managed to score one run and Bonham headed home with a tough 5-4 win on the road.

Brooke Aaron went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Shelby Jones, Joli Kirkpatrick and Mackenzie Downs all had two hits apiece.

Downs picked up the win as Bonham moved to 5-3 in district.

The loss drops Melissa to 6-2.
