R. Lee McBroom, Jr. was born on April 11, 1943, in Monterey Park, CA to R. Lee McBroom, Sr. and Willie (Burgess) McBroom. He was a 1963 Bonham High School graduate. Lee, alongside his brother, worked and co-owned McBroom Auto Body Shop for over 50 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bonham. Lee served on the boards of numerous organizations, including Bonham Lions Club, Bonham Campfire Board, and Bonham Chamber of Commerce.

Lee had a passion for gardening and loved planting flowers, shrubs, and trees. He took great pride in his yard. It was not unusual to pass his house and see him on the lawn mower, hoeing weeds, watering or fertilizing. He loved all holidays especially Christmas. At Christmas time he took great pleasure in decorating his yard for everyone to enjoy. When he wasn’t working in the yard, he was antique shopping or traveling.

Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Lee had a fierce love for his 5 grandchildren. He was a kid at heart and enjoyed spoiling and playing with them any chance he could. Lee will always be remembered for his big heart and generosity.

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ann (Franklin) McBroom of Bonham; daughters, Michele Hieb and husband Steve of Frisco and Wendi Spece and husband James of Frisco; grandchildren, Kyler and Mylie Hieb and Jack, Jett and Kate Spece; brother, David McBroom and wife Donna of Bonham; nephews Darrell and Geoffrey McBroom; nieces, Kim Champ and Kristi Lux; brother-in-law’s, Jerry Franklin (Liz) of Bonham and J.D. Franklin (Hopie) of Decatur. He is also survived by his ever so spoiled Yorkie, Macy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carolyn Tomlinson, nephew, Jon McBroom and niece, Tammy Franklin Barnes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fannin County Children’s Center located at 112 W. 5th Street, Bonham, TX 75418; First Baptist Church of Bonham 710 N Center, Bonham, TX 75418 or the family simply asks for you to plant a tree in memory of Lee.
