The program will offer two continuing education units in integrated pest management for Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators license holders. Registration is $10 and includes lunch. Preregistration is requested by May 1 by calling the AgriLife Extension office in McLennan County at 254-757-5180.

Curtis and Mary Timmons, owners and operators of Country Spring Vineyard, will host the event along with the AgriLife Extension horticulture committee and volunteers from the McLennan County Master Gardeners. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the program will start at 8 a.m.

Speakers and topics include:

– Fran Pontasch, AgriLife Extension viticulture specialist, College Station, Basics of Vineyard Establishment.

– Jake Mower, AgriLife Extension soils specialist, College Station, Importance of Soil and Tissue Testing.

– Mike Latimer, Latimer Vineyards in Riesel, Everyday Vineyard Management.

– Dr. Justin Scheiner, AgriLife Extension viticulture specialist. 

– Michael Cook, AgriLife Extension viticulture specialist,  Vineyard Disease and Pest Management.

– Dr. David Appel,  Agrilife Extension pathology specialist, and Sheila McBride, AgriLife Extension associate specialist in plant pathology, Trunk Virus and Research in Grape Virus and Trunk Disease.

The program will conclude with a panel discussion from the Central Texas Vines and Wines program with “Lessons They Learned from the Vineyard.”
