Gunter, Texas -- James C. Pitts took his flight to glory on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 82 years of age.  James was the sixth of nine children born to JB and Eula Myre Pitts on November 19, 1935 in Caddo Mills, Texas. James “Dad” is remembered for his dedication to God and his church, his anointed singing and love of usic, his continuous jokes and thought provoking riddles, and his great love for his entire family, friends and acquaintances. He leaves a vast emptiness and will be missed greatly by all.  We expect that he is now dancing on golden streets and visiting with loved ones in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margie Latta Pitts, parents J.B. and Eula Myre Pitts, brothers and sisters Harold and Dorothy Pitts, Verdell and Owena Pitts, Charles Pitts, Howard Franks, Arla and Durwood Waller, and James Minchey.

He is survived by sisters and brothers: Bonnie Franks, Billie Pitts, Joel and Mary Pitts, Wanda Minchey, JB and Karen Pitts;  His children: LaDonna Joy and Art Jones, Angela Hope and  Danny Lunsford, Faith Renee and Rev. Jr Thornhill, James Latta “Jim” and wife Loretta Pitts, Rev. John Mark and wife Ladeana Pitts; grandchildren Natasha and Brian Durden, Tyrell and Laura Jones, LaDessa and Matthew Powell, Nathaniel “Nate” Lunsford, Asa and Allison Thornhill , Joani Thornhill, Rebecca Thornhill, Dusty Thornhill, Erika and Casey Mounger, Erin Pitts and Andrew McBride, Haylee Pitts, 9 great-grandchildren, family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other friends and adopted family.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne. Burial will follow in the Van Alstyne Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Brian Durden, Tyrell Jones, Matthew Powell, Nate Lunsford, Asa Thornhill, Dusty Thornhill, Casey Mounger, Andrew McBride.
