Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for Larry Thomas Mankin, 68, of Bonham, Texas will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Bonham, Texas, under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Preceded by the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Officiating will be Father Paolo Capra. Interment will follow at Arledge Ridge Cemetery in Bonham, Texas. Larry passed away on May 20, 2018. He was born October 31, 1949 in Bonham, Texas to Virgil Thomas (Tom) Mankin & Teresa Marie Weber Mankin.
Larry was a 1968 graduate of Bonham High School and a 1972 graduate of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, with a Bachelor of Science, with an emphasis on Finance. He also attended the University of Houston at Clear Lake. He married Patricia Lee Buehrig on July 14, 1973 in Huntsville, TX on the campus of Sam Houston State University.
Larry retired in 2006 from Exxon Baytown Refinery after 29 years . He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Bonham. He was a soccer coach for many years and later obtained the US Soccer Federation Licensed Coach. He was a Field Trial Judge and was a member and board member of the Texas Coastal Brittney Club, and member of the Lone Star Retriever Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an Eagle Scout and reached the Order of the Arrow.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Thomas (Tom) Mankin & Teresa Marie Weber Mankin.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Patricia Lee Mankin; two sons, Stuart Thomas Mankin of Bluffton, SC and Thomas Elmo Mankin of Bonham, TX.
Pallbearers will be Arthur Dean Chaney, Mark Clayton, Jerry Cox, Gil Hodges, Dennis Holman, John Renshaw, Charles Weaver, James Winnett. Honorary pallbearers will be John Buehrig and the late Jim Crittenden.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Wise Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, loving contributions in Larry's name may be made to the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church Building Fund, 916 Maple St., Bonham, TX 75418.
