Tyler, Texas -- Brookshire's, Super 1 Foods and Spring Market stores have named winners in the “Because History Matters” scholarship program, providing $38,000 in tuition assistance to 12 recently graduated high school students planning to attend college in the fall.

$3,000: Khalil Brownlee, Malvern High School, Malvern, Arkansas
$1,500: Abigail Herrin, Watson Chapel High School, Pine Bluff, Arkansas
Louisiana:
$5,000: Olivia Davis, Caddo Magnet High School, Shreveport, Louisiana
$3,000: Kennedi Watts, Word of God Academy, Shreveport, Louisiana
$1,500: Dorcas Brown, C.E. Byrd High School, Shreveport, Louisiana
Texas:
$5,000: Lawrence Robinson, Red Oak High School, Red Oak, Texas
$3,000: Rebecca Strub, Big Sandy High School, Big Sandy, Texas
$1,500: Jordan Miller, Commerce High School, Commerce, Texas
Brookshire Grocery Co. Employee Scholarships:
$5,000: Sarah Day, Lindale High School, Lindale, Texas
$3,000: Lainey Smith, Caddo Magnet High School, Shreveport, Louisiana
$1,500: Kaylee Fyffe, Gilmer High School, Gilmer, Texas
The scholarships were awarded to students in the three states where Brookshire Grocery Co. operates stores (Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas), including separate scholarships for Company employees. Recipients were selected based on the content of their essay, along with their academic achievement, financial need and demonstration of leadership including awards, achievements, extracurricular activities and community service. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher was required to apply.
