Garden Docents Meeting

Thursday, August 2, 2018, 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Program TBA for this meeting. Docents meet monthly to train to identify butterflies, native Texas plants and the plant-insect connection, and to plan for tours and other garden events. Visitors welcome to attend and learn more.

Butterfly Garden Walk

Saturday, August 4 and Saturday, August 18, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Enjoy a stroll through the Butterfly Garden at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge.  Come on your own or bring the family.  Every first, third and fifth Saturday, Garden docents will be on hand to help you identify the Texas native plants and the butterflies in the garden.  Use our close-focus butterfly binoculars to get a really CLOSE look.  Special activities for families available: scavenger hunts, meet the Metamorphosis Puppet and more. Garden walks are Come and Go or Come and Stay. The garden is free of charge and open to the public during Refuge hours.

Outdoor Crew

Show your love for nature! Join the Outdoor Crew at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, sprucing up trails, trimming and removing brush, trash and general cleanup! Second Saturday - Bats

Dr. Bryon Clark will be back to speak about Bats, our only flying mammal. Despite a reputation for "creepiness", bats are known as the farmers' friend, consuming millions of insects and pollinating fruit. Learn more at this free nature presentation.

The Refuge Rocks - For Ages 4 - 7

Raccoons Rock!! What animal is an expert thief and wears a mask as a disguise? If you guessed raccoon, you’re right Raccoons are so smart they have been able to have adapt to many different habitats including cities. Learn more about these cute and clever but also pesky animals. Please register each child separately. Parents/responsible adults accompany children in this age group.

The Refuge Rocks - For Ages 8 - 12

Raccoons Rock! Raccoons are very smart and have adapted to many different habitats, from country side to cities. How do they do that? Learn about these cute but pesky nocturnal omnivores at our free nature program this month. Please register each child individually.
