Bonham, Texas -- Just imagine being alive for the past 100 years – not just living that long, but being ALIVE that long. Imagine what you would have seen, done, lived through, and survived. Imagine dirt roads that became paved roads that became superhighways that became space paths to the Moon. Yes, imagine . . . the first automobiles and the first airplanes. Indoor plumbing, vaccinations, refrigeration. Technology developing faster than you can keep track of it. World wars, natural disasters, assassinations, high crimes. Sports, fashion, celebrity. Television and the movies. And so, so much more.

Just imagine it.

Margaret Lura McKelva Morris was ALIVE for all of that . . . and more. For 100 enriched and enriching years. Her almost countless number of friends called her Lura, and now they have lost from their lives a truly remarkable woman.

Lura Morris died Sunday afternoon, July 29, at her final home, The Woodmoore Assisted Living Center in Bonham. She was born in Bonham on August 31, 1917, and proudly, almost defiantly, she died in that same hometown. Her final days were peaceful and she had prepared herself. But that does nothing to diminish the sense of loss felt by those who knew her and who loved her.

Just to list the simple facts of the 100 years of life for Lura Morris . . . married to L.B. Morris for almost 57 years, raised two sons, enjoyed a passel of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, graduated from Bonham High School and North Texas State, steered the family’s thriving mattress and interiors factory heralded as the oldest family-owned business in Fannin County, cherished her membership in Bonham’s First Baptist Church, and did all of that with passion and humor and love . . . just to list those simple facts seems an injustice. The simple facts ignore Lura Morris’ depth and devotion to all she did and to everyone she touched.

Lura Morris had skills. She wrote, painted, sewed, cooked, arranged dried flowers, made scrapbooks, and followed all the sports news possible. She loved Cowboys and Mavericks and Rangers and Horned Frogs . . . and Purple Warriors. You might say she married into all of that since L.B. became a four-time inductee into sports Halls of Fame.

She is survived by son, Mackie Morris of Dallas, Texas; along with 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Morris and son, Monte C. Morris.

The world became a better place because of her; Heaven just became a richer and smarter place, too.

A celebration of life for Margaret Lura (McKelva) Morris, age 100, of Bonham, Texas will be at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home, Bonham, Texas to honor her many achievements; Bro. Bill Beasley and Bro. Dave Renfro will officiate. Private interment will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery.

Family visitation will be on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home Bonham, TX from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
