Pamela Michelle Smith Burkard

Bonham, Texas -- Funeral services for Pamela Michelle Smith Burkard, 58, of Bonham, Texas will be held Tuesday, August 14th, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Boyd Baptist Church 3707 TX Highway 78 N., Bonham, Texas, under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Randy McBroom and Gary Purdy. Interment will follow at Hampton Cemetery in Edhube Community, Texas with Rev. John Lindsey officiating the graveside service. Pam was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on August 8, 2018.

She was born February 26, 1960 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Orlin "Bud" Wayne Smith & Phyllis Glendola Houston Smith. Pam was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She could often be found cheering her sons and grandchildren on at rodeos, stock shows, school and sporting events. She greeted each day with a drink of Pepsi and a contagious smile. Her easy-going nature made her instantly loved by all she met. She loved caring for people, many affectionately called her “Momma Burkard” or “Momma B”.

Although not related by blood, she made everyone feel like family. She loved her husband Bill and was a true farm-wife in every sense of the word. She knew how to feed livestock or cook a legendary family meal. She and Bill raised four rambunctious boys, who were responsible for many of the grey hairs that graced her head. On game days, Pam could be found with a hoarse voice from cheering for (and occasionally yelling at) her favorite team, the Texas Rangers.

Family gatherings were one of her favorite events, she greatly enjoyed spending time with her large family. During Pam’s battle with cancer, she remained strong, encouraged her family daily, “Everything would be okay.” She rested in the assurance of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis Glendola Houston Smith.

Surviving are her husband of 41 years, Bill Burkard; father, Orlin "Bud" Wayne Smith, stepmother, Margaret Lane Smith of Sherman; four sons, Billy Burkard and Raechel of Bonham, Michael Burkard and Afton of Ivanhoe, Clint Burkard and Chastity of Denison, Danny Burkard and Tasha of Ivanhoe; thirteen grandchildren, Cagen, Avery, Gracie, Laney, Ella, Carson, Carter, Leigha, Adrianne, Clint II, Alexis, Colton, Adalyn; sister, Penny Hall and husband Kent of Ponder, Texas; and brother, Keith Smith of Bridgeport, TX; many extended family members, and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends at Boyd Baptist Church on Monday, August 13 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. An online guestbook is available at www.wisefuneralhome.com
