Downtown Sherman celebrates our veterans with Veterans Day Parade Nov. 9

Sherman, Texas -- On Saturday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. the second annual Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Sherman will begin. The military vehicles, floats, bands and community groups will follow a route from Mulberry at City Hall to North Travis Street, around the Courthouse Square and back down Crockett in celebration of the service and sacrifice of American veterans.

At 10:00 a.m., as the parade begins, a flyover of World War II vintage T-6 training aircraft is scheduled to take place downtown and be visible to those lining the parade route. These are planes that actually served this area at Perrin Air Force Base in 1945 to train pilots stationed there.

In celebration and support of our veterans, several downtown businesses will be offering discounts to vets on Saturday and having events through Veterans Day which is Monday, November 11. At the time of this writing, Knight’s Furniture will offer veterans and their families a 25% discount on their purchases November 8 through November 11.

On Monday, November 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m., Old Iron Post at 101 N Travis will host a Celebrity Monday event benefitting the Veteran’s Assistance Fund. This fund seeks to provide monetary support to veterans in our area who are in need for things like rent, food, medical bills, and other items and is administered by the Sherman VFW Post 2772.

Participants will have multiple opportunities to have fun while benefiting this fund and supporting our veterans.
