Sulphur Bluff, Texas -- The Ector Eagles won their second tournament in as many weeks by knocking off the hometown Sulphur Bluff Bears in the finals of the 2019 Cap Herman Tournament in Sulphur Bluff.
Ector had wins over Cumby, CHESS, CHAAMP and Campbell to advance to the tournament championship.
In the 74-22 win over Cumby, Austin Earl had four three-pointers and a game-high 23 points. Garen Norwood put up 11 points, with J.B. Johnson and Kenny Nelms tossing in 10 points apiece.
Against CHESS, it was Kenny Nelms leading the way with 20 points. Kyrin Beach and Nathan Essary both had 12 points and Noel Cannaday put in 10 points as Ector posted a 79-29 victory.
In an 81-50 win over CHAAMP in the quarterfinals, Austin Earl pumped in seven triples to finish with a game-high 21 points, although Kenny Nelms was close behind with 19 points. Noel Cannaday was also in double digits with 12 points
Ector overpowered Campbell, 74-23, in the semifinals, led by Austin Earl's 18 points and Garen Norwood's 17 points. Corey Whitburn put up 10 points.
In the tournament championship against the hometown Sulphur Bluff Bears, Ector raced out to a 22-12 lead in the opening period and made the lead hold up for a 63-51 win.
Kenny Nelms knocked down 23 points to lead the Eagles, Noel Cannaday dropped in a dozen points and Kyrin Beach had 10 points.
Garen Norwood was named tournament MVP, while Kenny Nelms and Austin Earl were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Eagles are now 12-3 on the season.
