Fannin County Texas A&M Club awards local scholarships

Fannin County, Texas -- The Fannin County Texas A&M Club recently awarded nine $500.00 scholarships to area students who will be attending Texas A&M University at College Station beginning in the Fall semester 2020. The recipients are Randy Arris (Bonham HS), Brooke Blackerby (Leonard HS), Jacob Caffee (Honey Grove HS), Bryson Cook (Leonard HS), Olivia Foster (Bonham HS), Lauren Newman (Leonard HS), Audrey Shaw (Leonard HS), Hayden Stroud (Honey Grove HS), and Lexi Thern (Leonard HS.

The scholarship is available to students who submit an application/essay regarding their high school achievements, reside in Fannin County, and have been accepted to attend Texas A&M University, College Station.

Randy Arris

Randy Arris plans to study physics on his way to a career in neurosurgery. While attending Bonham High School, Randy was involved in 4-H as a state level officer, student government, National Honor Society, and served as senior class president.

Brook Blackerby

Brooke Blackerby aspires to be a medical doctor and will major in molecular and experimental nutrition. Brooke enjoys reading, playing tennis, serving her community, and looks forward to joining the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.

Jacob Caffee

While attending Honey Grove High School, Jacob Caffee was active in sports and held the Beta Club vice-president position for the state of Texas. The future well-being of our country has guided Jacob’s path to choose a major in political science so that he can gain knowledge that will help contribute to social policy evolution.

Bryson Cook

Bryson Cook’s dream of changing the world leads him down a path of engineering as a course of study. Bryson has helped the Leonard High School Robotics team to several state level events, competed in UIL all region band, football, and tennis.

Olivia Foster

With a vision of becoming a registered nurse, Olivia Foster plans a course of study that will lead her to acceptance into the Texas A&M Nursing School. While attending Bonham High School, Olivia was active in many organizations as well as cheerleading.

Lauren Neman

Lauren Newman’s interest in agriculture has influenced her to be active in FFA, state officer in 4-H, and Beta Club while attending Leonard High School. While majoring in animal science, Lauren hopes to one day be an advocate for the Texas agriculture industry.

Audrey Shaw

Audrey Shaw leaves Leonard High School as their all-time fastest distance runner with appearances at state cross country and state track meets as well as a spot on TEAM USA’s Australian circuit. Audrey’s passion is to study biomedical engineering and one day develop products that will change the health outcomes for multitudes of people.

Hayden Stroud

While a sports standout at Honey Grove High School, Hayden Stroud was also involved with One Act Play, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was a state Beta Club officer. Hayden plans to ultimately become an Orthopedic Surgeon by majoring in biomedical science.

Lexi Thern

Lexi Thern currently serves in the Texas Army National Gard and has signed up to enter the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets while studying engineering. Lexi has over 500 hours of
volunteer community service and was a regional qualifier in track for Leonard High School.
