Fannin County, Texas -- Six new watershed signs were recently installed along roadways in the watershed of the North Sulphur River and where the future Lake Ralph Hall will be located. The signs help increase awareness for travelers’ of their location within the watershed of the North Sulphur River and encourage them to be mindful of their activities to protect water quality.  The six new signs increase the total to eleven signs in the North Sulphur River watershed. Many watershed signs are currently in place in Denton County for the watersheds of Lewisville Lake, Lake Ray Roberts, Grapevine Lake and the Trinity River.

Lake Ralph Hall will be one of Texas’ newest lakes and one of the state’s biggest water projects in the last 30 years. Named after the longtime US Congressman Ralph Hall from Rockwall, the reservoir will be located on the North Sulphur River in southeast Fannin County and will provide essential water for an area whose population is projected to increase nearly 500% in the next 50 years. Once complete, Lake Ralph Hall will provide an additional 35 million gallons daily (MGD) of treated water and 19 MGD of reuse water for the residents of Denton, Collin and Fannin counties.

Upper Trinity Regional Water District holds a water rights permit issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; and, has a Section 404 (Clean Water Act) permit pending with the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers, which is expected to be issued in early 2020. Construction is scheduled to begin in mid 2020 with water delivery by 2025.
