Honey Grove, Texas -- The Honey Grove City Council recognized the dedication of local law enforcement, in particular those who responded to a dangerous situation in the city June 15, 2021.
Honey Grove Police Officer David Pruiett was the first to arrive at a possible domestic disturbance and found himself taking cover as rifle shots rang out. Precinct 3 Constable Kevin Mayberry was the first back-up on the scene.
The two men survived a hail of gunfire that Constable Mayberry estimates was 30-50 shots from a 5.56 caliber AR-15 assault rifle, while managing to contain the suspect until he shot and killed himself after a 10-hour standoff with law enforcement.
The Paris Police Department SWAT Team, Lamar and Fannin County sheriff’s deputies, DPS SWAT, Texas Rangers and the Plano PD Bomb Squad all responded.
Officer Pruiett was wounded and would be flown to a Plano hospital where he was admitted in stable condition and eventually released June 23.
In addition to Honey Grove City Council and Honey Grove Police Chief Leigh Dixon, Fannin County Judge Randy Moore and Fannin County Sheriff Mark Johnson attended the meeting to recognize the heroic action of local law enforcement.
