Bonham, Texas -- The Pottsboro Cardinals improved to 5-0 in District 5-3A with a 21-point win over the Bonham Warriors.
The Warriors had an 8-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter, courtesy of a 57-yard touchdown run by Jeren Ross and a pass to Jackson Abbott for the two-point conversion.
In the second period, Ross broke free for a 59-yard sprint to pay dirt and Bonham quarterback Mason Rodriguez connected with Dustan Sewell on a 62-yard scoring strike, but Pottsboro quarterback Jett Carroll ran for one TD and passed for two touchdowns to give the Cardinals a 28-22 lead at halftime.
Early in the third period, Rodriguez hit Sewell for a 62-yard touchdown pass as Bonham slipped in front, 29-28.
Pottsboro picked off a pass to set up a 25-yard field goal that put the Cardinals back on top, 31-29.
Pottsboro went on to score two more touchdowns to give the Cardinals a 45-29 cushion heading into the fourth quarter.
Rodriguez ran for a TD in the final frame, however two more touchdowns by Pottsboro gave the Cardinals a 58-37 win on the road.
The Warriors (2-3) will travel to Howe on Friday, October 29 and then host Emory-Rains on November 5 to close out district action.
Pottsboro will host undefeated Mount Vernon next Friday in the game of the year in District 5-3A.
