Anna, Texas (Dec. 20, 2021) – On Tuesday, Dec. 14, Anna City Council approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a purchase order with Maguire Iron for the rehabilitation and repainting of the Sherley Heritage Park Water Tower.

At a meeting in October, City Council requested staff to provide an opportunity for Anna neighbors to offer their input on what color to paint the water tower. Voting was limited Anna utility customers and only one vote per household. 628 votes were received, and after the rules were applied, 551 votes were tallied.

It is important to note applying the rules only changed the winning percentage from 54.0% to 53.4% - meaning the votes received from duplicate voters and non-customers remained very consistent with the final tallies, and the corrections did not affect the outcome.

The water tower located adjacent to Sherley Heritage Park functions as a historical element in Downtown Anna. The park is home to other historical references, including the train depot, the Collin McKinney statue, and the future Train Engine.

In the FY2022 budget, the City allocated $195,000 for the project utilizing the Community Investment Program Utility Non-Bond Fund to cover the costs.
