Bonham, Texas -- Elijah Emmanuel Garcia, 12, of Bonham, TX was born on March 16, 2010 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The gates of Heaven opened and accepted Elijah home on Sunday, September 4, 2022.

There are not enough words to describe Elijah. He was in the 7th grade and attended school at L. H. Rather in Bonham, TX. He was a very vibrant, smart, and talented young man, with a very large personality. He would tell you how he thought it should be, knowing how to micromanage everything and everyone.  You could always tell when he was about to correct something you said because he would start out with “Well actually…”.

Elijah loved school and learning.  This was evident almost every day, but especially when he won the 2021 spelling bee at I.W. Evans as well as several medals while competing in UIL. As an avid reader at a 12th grade level, he read anything he could get his hands on.  Elijah was in honors Math and Reading and took Choir and (PHT) Principles of Hospitality and Tourism.  He enjoyed cooking, participated in Robotics, and enjoyed taking things apart just to put them back together again.

Elijah was also very loveable and had a big heart, he loved to be helpful. He enjoyed swimming and going to the beach. He loved art; whether it was drawing, painting, or crafting; he was resourceful and clever in everything and anything that he set his mind to create. He loved his family and friends.

Elijah wanted to learn to play the guitar and to one day learn how to drive a stick shift so that he could drive his Daddy’s Jeep. He enjoyed the company of older women; he would craft or go to the library with Granny Elaine, bake cookies with Grammy Martie, and go play bingo with Memaw Sharon. He even had thoughts of his future with dreams of owning a bakery /pizzeria and running it with his best friend Michael. He walked home almost every day with his best friend Trey and Jesse.

Elijah attended church at the Westside Baptist Church in Honey Grove. There was not a moment that went by that Elijah’s mind sat idle nor is there a moment that will go by that he will not be missed.

He is survived by his Mom and Dad, Rachael and John Murrell and siblings, Desi Murrell (Sissy), Jerodi Murrell, Jamari Murrell, and Shonyx Murrell all of Bonham, TX.  Niece, Huntleigh Murrell and Nephew, Jelahni Murrell; and Grandparents, “Granny” Elaine Powell of Honey Grove, TX; “Grammy” Martie Powell of Richardson, TX; “Memaw” Sharon Sparks of Bonham, TX and “Grandma” Maria Gardea of Las Cruces, New Mexico; great grandparents, “Nana” Faye and Roy Davis of Plano, TX; and great great grandma Tennie Ireland of San Antonio, TX and father, Emmanuel Garcia of Las Cruces, New Mexico; in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends.

Elijah is preceded in death by grandparents, “Pops” Boyd Powell, “Gran Nanny” Sandra Dickinson, “Pop” Charlie Powell and Aunt Candance Girton.

Visitation will be at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, TX with funeral services starting at 6:00 pm. Bro. Terry Paul Cunningham will officiate.
