Melissa, Texas -- The Melissa Cardinals improved to 2-2 on the season with a runaway win over the Crandall Pirates in the district opener.

Melissa had a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and the Cardinals scored 23 unanswered points in the second period on their way to a 50-22 win in front of their hometown fans.

The Cardinals will try to move to 2-0 in District 7-5A-2 when they travel to Terrell on Friday.
