Sherman, Texas -- On November 9, 2022, Dustin Lacey stepped into the waiting arms of his NeNe and Pop in heaven. Those of us left behind grieve for our loss but take solace in knowing he was met with a glorious smile and big hugs.
Dustin was born December 24, 1994 in McKinney, TX to father David Lacey and mother Margaret Lacey.
Dustin is survived by his mother and father, Margaret and David Lacey; sister, Jamie Gilgan and brother-in-law Patrick Gilgan; Memaw and Pepaw Beverly and Doug Lacey, Uncle Jason and Aunt Tammy Brown, Cousins Drew and Jayden Brown, Uncle Danny and Aunt Rachel Lacey, Cousins Devin, Daniel, and Dalton Lacey, Uncle Dan and Aunt Keyia Peterson, Cousin Crews, and Uncle Jerry Peterson.
Dustin was preceded in death by his Nene and Pop, Myrna and Pete Peterson.
Dustin grew up in Luella, TX and attended Tom Bean school from kindergarten through high school graduation in 2013. Dustin attended Grayson College and joined the services as an active member of the United States Coast Guard in November of 2017. Dustin served his first 2 years in Sitka, Alaska and continued to serve at his final station in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Quoting from some of many comments and posts from friends and family: “He was an amazing young man, a blessing, has a sincere heart: He loved music and going to concerts and shows, he had an authentic relationship with God, even during times when questioning his faith: He was adventurous, loved an adrenaline rush, hiking the tallest peaks & jumping from the tallest cliffs into the ocean: He loved his dog Allana and took her on adventures with him: He was a good friend, not a mean bone in his body: He was my right hand man & lifelong friend : He listened intentionally and really cared: He loved and lived without judgement : He loved his family and friends with his whole heart : He was his sister’s best friend.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro. Rev. Drew Svendson will officiate. Burial will be at Georgetown Cemetery with full Coast Guard Honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vincent Bean, Zac Newman, Dylan Doolittle, Patrick Gilgan, Drew Brown, Ben Caldwell, and Jake Stephens.
