Bonham, Texas -- Billy Ross Sanderson was born on January 2, 1932 in Whitewright, Texas to Mildred and Andy Sanderson. Mr. Sanderson passed away December 27, 2022 in Denison, Texas.
Billy grew up in Bonham, Texas and graduated from Bonham High School in 1950. In 1951, Billy joined the United States Air Force and served four years doing tours in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, The Island of Guam, and Japanese Island of Okinawa.
On June 3, 1953, Billy married Barbara Williams of Bonham, Texas. He worked at the VA Hospital in Bonham for 33 years, serving as a recreation assistant. After retiring he had an in-home leather business known as Belts by Bill. Billy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bonham for over 80 years. He also served as a member of Bonham’s City Council for 6 years and as mayor for one year.
Mr. Sanderson is survived by his sons, Mark and wife Peggy, Clark and wife Denise, Kyle and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Derek and wife Andrea, Shannon, Andy and wife Jodie, Owen and wife Ashton, Emily and husband Austen, John, Logan, Noah, Gage and wife Heather, and Bi Bi and husband Will; brothers, Allen and wife Beth, Bobby and wife Ginger; along with 6 great grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Billy Sanderson will be Friday, December 30, 2022, at First Baptist of Bonham, beginning at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will be held the same day beginning at 2:30 p.m. Rev Ken Ussery will preside.
Billy’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church of Bonham and to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
The family would like to say a special thank you to Linda Padalla for being a Heaven-sent caregiver and friend to Bill. Her presence and hard work allowed Bill to be in his home near his family and greatly enhanced his last few years on this earth. We are eternally grateful to her.
